Dan Balan is a Moldovan musician, songwriter, producer, and the founder of the Moldovan trio 'O-Zone'. He was the first and only Moldovan musician nominated as a co-author of the hit 'Live Your Life', sung by American singer Rihanna and rapper T.I. He is a mentor on the Ukrainian singing talent show 'The Voice of the Country' (2019).
Place of Birth. Education. Dan Balan was born on February 6, 1979, in Chișinău to the family of Mihai Balan (former ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Israel) and moderator Lyudmila Balan. In his early childhood, he learned to play the accordion and graduated from music school. In 1996, the young musician enrolled in the law faculty.
The band 'Inferialis'. In 1996, Dan founded his first band 'Inferialis', which played in the Gothic-Doom-Metal style. He then realized that his paths had parted from law and he wanted to focus solely on music. After leaving the institute, he began to promote his own rock band that played underground music.
The band 'O-Zone'. In 1999, Dan launched a new music project - the band 'O-Zone'. In 1999, the band released their first album 'Dar unde esti', which contained 11 songs and 2 bonus tracks. The album brought them great popularity in Moldova. Seven of the ten songs from the new album became absolute superhits and topped all charts of all radio stations in Moldova.
The band's second hit - the song 'Despre Tine' became a phenomenon in the Romanian music industry. The song was an absolute superhit in Romania, immediately reaching number 1 in the country's main chart, Romania Airplay Top 100, and stayed at the top for 17 consecutive weeks.
The international success of the band came a bit later when in 2003 the song 'Dragostea Din Tei' was released. It brought 'O-Zone' and Dan international recognition...
The album 'DiscO-Zone', released in 2004, became the band's best-selling album and achieved platinum and gold status in various countries, selling over 3.5 million copies. It was the best-selling album in Japan within a year. In January 2005, at the peak of their popularity, the music project 'O-Zone' officially disbanded, and the members devoted themselves to solo projects.
Solo Career. Dan formed a pop-rock band called 'Balan'. Concurrently, under the pseudonym Crazy Loop, the album 'The Power of Shower' was recorded, which was released on December 1, 2007.

On December 1, 2009, the presentation of the new album 'Crazy Loop Mix' took place in Chișinău.
In February 2010, the single 'Chica Bomb' was released, which topped the charts. On October 29, 2010, the premiere of the joint song by Dan and Vera Brezhneva 'Лепестками слез' took place on Love Radio. The song also topped the official Russian charts, becoming the third of three consecutive singles by Dan that reached the first position. On November 29, 2012, the new album Freedom (Part 1) was released, which included 13 tracks and 4 remixes from various studios in the USA, England, Italy, and Romania.
In 2019, Dan Balan became a coach for the 9th season of the Ukrainian project 'The Voice of the Country' on the 1+1 channel.
On October 28, 2019, he and Tina Karol presented a new interpretation of the song 'Додому' in the TV show 'Dancing with the Stars'.
On January 19, 2020, he was again a coach for the 10th anniversary season of the singing talent show 'The Voice of the Country'.
