Biography of Valeriy Chaloy

Date of Birth: 01.07.1970

Place of Birth. Education. Valeriy Chaloy was born in Vinnytsia. In 1992, he graduated from the Vinnytsia Pedagogical University (historical faculty). In 1995, he graduated from the postgraduate Institute for International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (Faculty of International Law).

Career. In 1995, Valeriy Chaloy was appointed senior advisor to the group of assistants and counselors of the Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma under the direction of the first deputy head of state, Oleksandr Razumkov.

From 1995 to 1997, he was the director of international legal programs at the Ukrainian Center for Economic and Political Studies (in 2000, the center was named after Oleksandr Razumkov).

From 1997 to 1999, he served as assistant to the deputy secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Oleksandr Razumkov. During those years, the secretary of the National Security and Defense Council was Volodymyr Horbulin.

As of December 1999, Valeriy Chaloy held the position of director for international programs at the Razumkov Center.

In May 2000, he became an advisor to the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Ukrainian Parliament.

Since January 2002, he has been a member of the Scientific Council of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Since December 2002, he has been a member of the scientific expert council of the Parliamentary Committee for European Integration.

Since November 2006, Valeriy Chaloy has been the Deputy General Director of the Razumkov Center and Director for International Programs.

From November 2009 to April 2010, he was Deputy Foreign Minister.

Since May 2010, he has been the Deputy General Director of the Razumkov Center.

On June 19, 2014, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko appointed Valeriy Chaloy as Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration by Decree No. 541/2014.

Since July 10, 2015, Valeriy Chaloy has been the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States of America.

On July 19, 2019, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree on the dismissal of Valeriy Chaloy from the post of Ambassador of Ukraine to the USA.

Family. Valeriy Chaloy has a wife, Ludmila (born 1968, Doctor of Historical Sciences), and a daughter, Olga (born 1998).

Hobbies. Valeriy Chaloy is interested in numismatics.
