Whitney Elizabeth Houston - pop, soul, and R&B singer and actress, was born on August 9, 1963, in Newark, New Jersey.

In 1983, Whitney made her debut as a singer on the popular television show 'The Merv Griffin Show' with the song 'Home'. In February 1985, her first album was released, which brought her great popularity and high rankings in the music charts.

The world got to know Whitney Houston in 1992 through the film 'The Bodyguard'. In this film, Whitney and Kevin Costner played the lead roles. The singer also performed the main music pieces of the film, including the ballad 'I Will Always Love You', which is considered the best-selling female solo album of all time. Whitney received Grammys in the categories 'Album of the Year' and 'Record of the Year'.

The studio albums from 2002 'Just Whitney' and from 2003 'One Wish: The Holiday Album' were not commercially successful and received criticism. In 2009, Whitney released the album 'I Look To You', which was well received by her fans. Throughout her life, Whitney released a total of seven studio albums.

In 1992, she married pop singer and rapper Bobby Brown. The difficult family life (scandals, alcohol, and drug abuse) led Whitney to file for divorce in 2006. In 2007, the singer was appointed by court order as guardian of her daughter Bobbi Kristina.

On the night of February 11, 2012, Whitney Houston died at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. Her bodyguard found her unconscious in the bathtub.
