Jean Castex (French: Jean Castex) - French politician, former Prime Minister of France.
Place of Birth. Education. Born on June 25, 1965, in Vic-Fezensac in southern France.
Studied at the University of Toulouse (1983). In 1986, he graduated from the Institute of Political Studies in Paris, obtaining a Master's degree in Public Law (1987). In 1991, he completed the École Nationale d'Administration (ENA).
Career. Since 1991, a senior official at the French Court of Auditors.
Political Career. In 2008, he was elected Mayor of Prades in the Pyrénées-Orientales department, subsequently re-elected in 2014 with the support of 70% of voters, and again in 2020 with 75.72%.
From 2011 to 2012, he served as Deputy Secretary-General under President Nicolas Sarkozy.
In 2012, he attempted to be elected to the National Assembly of France for his home department Aude but was defeated by the socialist candidate.
From 2010 to 2015, he was a member of the Languedoc-Roussillon Regional Council.
From 2015 to 2020, he was a member of the Republican Party.
Since March 29, 2015, he has been a member of the Pyrénées-Orientales Departmental Council.
In 2017, Prime Minister Edouard Philippe appointed Castex as the government representative to support Paris's candidacy to host the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
On April 3, 2020, he assumed the chairmanship of the interministerial government for the gradual lifting of restrictions caused by the spread of COVID-19.
On July 3, 2020, following the resignation of Prime Minister Édouard Philippe, President Emmanuel Macron appointed Jean Castex as Prime Minister.
On May 16, 2022, French President Emmanuel Macron accepted Jean Castex's resignation as Prime Minister, and the French government resigned alongside him.
