According to his own statements, he actively and successfully worked in the political and political technology field in the 1990s. He organized the election of governors, mayors, and deputies of the Verkhovna Rada. Then Kornilow left this 'dirty work' and took a different path - he devoted himself to publishing and journalism. Later, he founded and headed the Center for Strategic Planning. Until autumn 2005, as the Polittech resource reports, he advised the Gennady Vasiliev state bloc (the former Attorney General of Ukraine, co-founder of the Energo concern, member of the Regions Party at the VI Congress).

According to the editorial board of Glavred, Kornilow is an exception, 'he comes from Donetsk, but is not a 'donezek'.' Despite his long collaboration with politicians from Donbass, he allows himself criticism. He says that the main problem of the 'donezkis' is to serve every government.

He considers it necessary to adopt a new, enhanced treaty on friendship and cooperation between Ukraine and Russia. At the same time, he emphasized that as long as the position of the President of Ukraine is held by a 'staunch radical Ukrainian nationalist Viktor Yushchenko', it is impossible to hope for the conclusion of a normal document.

He states that in the political understanding of Kyiv, he is constantly surprised: 'There is a well-lit city here, but at the elections, they support people like Timoshenko, Chernovetsky, Klitschko'.
