Russell Ira Crowe is an Australian and American film star and director of New Zealand descent. Winner of the Oscar in 2001 (3 nominations).

Known for roles in films such as: 'L. A. Confidential' (1997), 'A Beautiful Mind' (2001), 'Gladiator' (2000), 'Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World' (2003), 'Cinderella Man' (2005), '3:10 to Yuma' (2007), 'Les Misérables' (2012), 'Noah' (2014), 'The Nice Guys' (2016), and 'The Mummy' (2017).

Birthplace. Education. Born on April 7, 1964, in Wellington (New Zealand) to parents Alex and Jocelyn Crowe. He was the second child in the family after his older brother Terry Crowe. When Crowe was 4 years old, the family moved to Sydney. His paternal ancestors come from Wales, Scotland, and Scandinavia. Maternal ancestors are Scots, English, and Maori (great-grandmother). At the age of 5, he appeared in an episode of the Australian TV series 'Spyforce', whose producer was his mother's godfather.

When he was 14 years old, the family returned to New Zealand and settled in a suburb of Auckland. The family's main income at that time was from their joint ownership of the budget restaurant 'Flying Jug'. Crowe left school to financially support the family.

Musical Career. In the 1980s, he was a member of the music group 'Russ Le Roc', whose name echoed his stage name. Later, Crowe formed a brand new rock band 'Roman Antix', whose members practically all transitioned into the rock band '30 Odd Foot Of Grunts', which existed from 1991 to 2005. After the band disbanded, Crowe embarked on a solo career. At 21, he traveled to Australia to audition for the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney but later decided against it. Crowe later recalled that he was advised not to waste time.

Film Career. After appearing in several series, Crowe received his first film role in 'Proof' in 1990. In 1992, the film 'Romper Stomper' was released, for which Crowe won the Australian Film Institute Award.

Crowe began receiving invitations from Hollywood directors - 'The Quick and the Dead' (1995), 'Virtuosity' (1995), 'L. A. Confidential' (1997).
