Place of Birth. Education. Born in Uzhhorod. In 1991, he graduated from the Institute of Journalism of the National Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv. Doctor of Philology, Professor.
Career. 1991-1992 - Editorial Department Head at the magazine Word and Time.
1993-2003 - Editor-in-Chief of the magazine Ukrainian Questions.
1996-2001 - Lecturer at the Institute of Journalism of the National Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv.
2001-2005 - Director of the Mohyla School of Journalism (National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, NaUKMA).
2001-2007 - Professor at NaUKMA, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Social Technologies.
From 2007 to 2014 - President of NaUKMA (the position was previously held by Vyacheslav Briukhovetsky).
On February 27, 2014, he was appointed Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine (in the government of Arseniy Yatsenyuk), replacing Dmytro Tabachnyk in this position.
In December 2014, the Supreme Council confirmed the new Cabinet, in which Kvit continued to hold the position of Minister of Education and Science.
On February 16, 2016, the deputies rated the government's performance in 2015 as unsatisfactory, but there were not enough votes for the resignation of the cabinet under Yatsenyuk.
On April 10, 2016, Yatsenyuk announced his resignation as Prime Minister, and on April 14, the Parliament voted for his resignation and repealed the resolution of February 16. On that day, a new Cabinet was appointed under the leadership of Volodymyr Groysman. In the new government, Liudmyla Hrynewych replaced Kvit as Minister of Education.
Since February 2019 - Head of the Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education.
On January 27, 2022, he was re-elected as President of NaUKMA.
On February 2, 2022, Education Minister Serhiy Shkarlet stated that the Ministry does not recognize the victory of Serhiy Kvit in the presidential elections at the National University 'Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.'
Since March 2022 - President of NaUKMA.
Social Activities. Since 1990, a member of the founding council of the New Literature Association, since 1995 a member of the scientific society named after Mykhailo Mykhnoisky, since 2002 President of the Center for Media Reform, since 2006 a member of the National Commission for the Protection of Freedom of Speech of the President of Ukraine. Since 2012, a member of the Supervisory Board of the Independent Association of Broadcasters and Distributors.
