Sergei Ivanovich Naev - Commander of the United Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General. Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Commander of the United Operational Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (2018-2019). Hero of Ukraine (2022).

Place of Birth. Education. Born on April 30, 1970, in the city of Mohyliv-Podilskyi, Vinnytsia region.

In 1991, he graduated from the Moscow Higher Combined Arms Command School.

From 2006 to 2007, he was a listener at the Faculty of Training Professionals at the Operational-Strategic Level at the National Defense Academy of Ukraine. As the best graduate, he was awarded the Sword of the Queen of Great Britain, which he received from the hands of the British Ambassador to Ukraine.

Military Career. In 1991, he served in Germany as a commander of a motorized rifle platoon in the East German military group, which was being withdrawn from reunified Germany at that time.

From 1992 to May 1993, he served under the command of the commander of the Eastern Military District in Russia as a certified combat officer.

Since May 1993, he has been in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In the 90s and early 2000s, he served in various positions in the West and South Operational Commands.

In the 7th Mechanized Regiment of the 24th Mechanized Division, he initially commanded a platoon, then a reconnaissance company, and eventually a battalion.

He was the commander of the 820th Mechanized Regiment of the 128th Division.

In the mid-2000s, he was the commander of the 28th Separate Mechanized Brigade.

From 2007 to early 2014, he held various leadership positions in the 13th Army Corps of the Ground Forces.

In 2014, he was the head of Sector 'B' during the fighting for Donetsk Airport.

In 2015, he was the Chief of Staff of the Operational Command 'South'.

From 2015 to 2017, he was the commander of the Operational Command 'East'.

At the end of 2017 - early 2018, he held the position of Chief of Staff - first Deputy Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as a Lieutenant General.

On March 7, 2018, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Viktor Muzhenko, introduced Sergei Naev as Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

From March 16, 2018, he was appointed Commander of the United Operational Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

On May 6, 2019, Petro Poroshenko dismissed Sergei Naev from the position of Commander of the JFO.

On March 28, 2020, President Volodymyr Zelensky appointed Sergei Naev as Commander of the United Armed Forces of Ukraine.

With the onset of the large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine (February 24, 2022) - responsible for the defense forces of Ukraine (a collection of task groups of the Armed Forces and volunteer formations directly involved in combat operations).
