Date of Birth: 09.06.1950

Place of Birth. Education. Born in Kyiv in a military family. Completed school in Kharkiv. In 1972, he graduated from the Faculty of Physics and Technology at Kharkiv State University.

Career. Since 1985, he worked as General Director of the All-Union Research and Production Association Monocrystalreactive, which was transformed into the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in 1991 and into the first academic scientific and technological consortium in Ukraine in 1995 on Semyonozhenko's initiative.

From 1996 - scientific director and chairman of the supervisory board of this consortium.

1996-1998 - head of the Ministry of Science and Technology of Ukraine.

Since 1997 - head of the Kharkiv branch of the National Institute for Strategic Studies.

1999, 2001-2002 - Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine.

Since 2000 - President of the Technopark Institute for Monocrystals, established by order of the President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma.

Since 2002 - head of the scientific and technological complex Institute for Monocrystals of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, which includes the Institute for Monocrystals, the Institute for Scintillation Materials, the Chemical Reagents Production, the Scientific Production Center Immunobiotechnology, and the Research and Technology Institute for Functional Microelectronics.

In 1994, 1998, and 2002, he was elected as a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

2003-2005 - advisor to the President of Ukraine Kuchma.

Since 2006 - chairman of the supervisory board of the intersectoral scientific and technological consortium New Technologies and Materials.

Since 2008 - chairman of the supervisory board of the American-Ukrainian company Intego.

On March 11, 2010, he was appointed Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine in Mykola Azarov's government. Responsible for the humanitarian sector. On July 2 of the same year, he was dismissed. The reason for dismissal, as stated in the explanation of the decision, was the fact that Semyonozhenko was appointed to the post of Vice Prime Minister, which violated the regulations of the Verkhovna Rada.

From June to December 2010 - chairman of the State Committee for Informatization.

On December 21, 2010, he was appointed head of the State Agency for Science, Innovation, and Informatization of Ukraine by a presidential decree from Viktor Yanukovych.

On June 11, 2014, he resigned as head of the State Information Bureau.

Social Activities. Head of the funds 'Ukraine - Children', 'New Names of Ukraine'. Chairman of the Council of the nationwide program 'Person of the Year'. Chairman of the Ukrainian Federation of Scientists. Member of the committee for the selection of competition projects for the development of high-tech technologies in the Cabinet of Ukraine. President of the All-Ukrainian public organization 'Ukrainian Association of Information Technology Specialists'. Head of the civil movement New Ukraine.

2001-2003 - chairman of the Party of Regions. After him, the party was led by Yanukovych.

Awards. Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (1984). Professor, corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1988), Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (1992). Honorary member (Academician) of the Academy of Arts of Ukraine. Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine for Science and Technology (1992, 2000), international prize for nuclear physics (1999). Awarded the Order 'For Merit' of I-III degrees.

Family. Married. Three sons.
