Andrij Vasylovych Taran - Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Slovenia, former Minister of Defense of Ukraine, diplomat, lieutenant general of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in retirement.
Place of birth. Education. Born on March 4, 1955, in Frankfurt (Oder) (GDR) into a family of a military officer serving in the Soviet troops in Germany.
In the 1970s, he graduated from the Kyiv Higher Military Artillery School named after S.M. Kirov with a specialization in military engineering-radio technician.

In the 1980s he graduated from the Military Academy of Air Defense of the Ground Forces in Kyiv with a specialization in 'Combat Operations Management'.
In 1993, he retrained at the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University for diplomatic service.
1995-1996 - studied at the National Defense University of the USA in Washington, obtaining a master's degree in 'national resource strategy'.

Military career. From 1992-1994 he served in the central office of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, then moved to the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense.
From 1996-1998 he worked in the NSDC Secretariat as an expert in strategic planning and analysis center, then returned to the central office of the Ministry of Defense.
From 2005 to 2008 - head of management in the Ministry of Defense, from 2008 - deputy head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense.
In December 2015 - April 2016 - first deputy commander of the Ground Forces of Ukraine.
2016 - transferred to reserve due to age.

Diplomatic career. From 1999-2004 military attaché at the Ukrainian Embassy in the USA.
2011-2014 - representative of the Ministry of Defense in Ukraine's mission to the UN.
From September to November 2015 he worked in the security subgroup in the TCG in Minsk.
From April to August 2015, he was Ukraine's representative in the Joint Center for Control and Coordination in Donbas (SCCC), which was established for the peaceful settlement of the conflict involving representatives of Ukraine and the Russian Federation.
On May 4, 2022, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree appointing Andrij Taran as Ambassador to Slovenia.
Political career. In 2019 he headed the election headquarters of presidential candidate Ihor Smeshko, and in the summer he ran for the Verkhovna Rada from the party list of Strength and Honor.
On March 4, 2020, the Verkhovna Rada approved the new composition of the Cabinet of Ministers, Andrij Taran was appointed Minister of Defense of Ukraine.
On November 3, 2021, the Verkhovna Rada dismissed Andrij Taran from the position of Minister of Defense.
Statement. According to the electronic declaration for 2019, the family of Andrij Taran owns an apartment of 100.5 m2 and two plots in Kyiv region (1198 m2, 1012 m2).
Andrij Taran drives a BUICK LACROSSE CXL (2013). His wife Viktoriya has two cars: Infinity G35 (2007) and Mercedes-Benz 170 CDI (2001).
In 2019, the minister's family earned over 500 thousand hryvnias. Their savings total 21,000 dollars, 5,000 euros, and 16,154 hryvnias in cash.
