Steps to the portrait.

In the presidential elections of the RSFSR on June 12, 1991, Zhirinovsky took third place (Boris Yeltsin won). During the attempted coup in August 1991, he openly supported the actions of the GKChP.

Very impulsive and scandalous politician. For example, during the recording of the talk show 'One on One' in 1995, he poured juice on his opponent Boris Nemtsov during a quarrel shouting 'Bastard!' When Nemtsov did the same thing, the LDPR leader threw a glass at him and later a talk powder. Almost all public appearances are marked by vivid metaphors and expressions.

In the 1996 presidential elections in Russia, he took fifth place and again lost to Yeltsin. In 2000, he lost to Vladimir Putin (again fifth place) and in 2008 to Dmitry Medvedev. In 2012 he again participated in the presidential race and again lost to Putin, taking fourth place. In the 2018 presidential elections in Russia, Zhirinovsky received 5.65% and took third place.

Ukraine put Zhirinovsky on the list of persona non grata. According to the SBU and some domestic politicians, his statements posed a threat to the national security of the country.
