Ballet dancer Polunin, who has a tattoo of Putin, decided to leave Russia.
Ukrainian dancer Sergey Polunin announced his decision to leave Russia after 12 years of living there. He made this statement on his Instagram, expressing gratitude to Russia for everything it has done for him and noting that his Time in the country has come to an end.
“The soul is restless. Thank you, Russia, for everything you have done for me. My time there has come to an end, my mission is accomplished. Russia has been my home for many years,” wrote Polunin.
Earlier, Polunin had already left the position of director of the Sevastopol Opera and Ballet Theater in occupied Crimea, which he held since 2019.
In 2003, Polunin moved to London to study at the Royal Ballet School. At the age of 19, he became the lead dancer of the School, becoming the youngest dancer in history.
In 2012, he moved to Russia and worked at the Moscow Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Theater. In 2018, he obtained Russian citizenship and supported Putin in the presidential elections.
Media reports state that Polunin supported the Russian invasion of Ukraine and funded the purchase of drones for the Russian military. He also performed at concerts to the music of pro-Kremlin singer Shaman.
The dancer has three tattoos featuring Putin's image on his body, but he also has a tattoo of the Ukrainian coat of arms.
Previously, Polunin accused the Russian Foreign Ministry of not allowing him to perform at a concert in Red Square in Moscow regarding the annexation of Ukrainian regions. He expressed his outrage and stated that he feels betrayed by his 'motherland'.
