Son of Tina Turner: What happened to Ike Turner Jr.

According to The Sun: The son of Tina Turner, Ike Turner Jr., has died at the age of 67, as confirmed by the singer's family.

Tina, known as the Queen of Rock 'n' Roll, adopted Ike Jr., who was born in 1958. His parents were Ike Turner Sr. and Lorraine Taylor.

Tina's relative, Jacqueline Bullock, told TMZ that Ike died on Saturday, a day after his birthday, in a Los Angeles hospital.

He suffered from kidney failure following prolonged health issues and had heart complications for several years. Last month, he was also diagnosed with a stroke.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of my cousin, Ike Turner Jr.,” she said.

“Junior was more than just a cousin to me, he was a brother as we grew up together in the same famous household.”

The musician, who rarely appeared in public, lost his father in 2007 and then Tina, who passed away in 2023.

He also lost his younger brother Ronnie, who died of colon cancer at 62 in December 2022, less than six months before their mother’s death.

Ike and Tina dominated the music industry from 1960 to 1976 with their group Ike & Tina Turner Revue, which sold over 10 million records.

The couple married in 1962 and divorced in 1978 when Tina cited irreconcilable differences due to physical and sexual abuse from her husband.

During this time, they had four children.

The singer of 'Simply The Best' adopted two of Ike Sr.'s sons from his previous relationships – Ike Jr. and Michael Turner. Tina also had three of her own children: Raymond Craig, whom she gave birth to at 18, and the only child she had with Ike, Ronnie Turner.

“Tina raised me from the age of 2. She is the only mom I have ever known,” Ike Jr. said previously.

In her memoir 'My Love Story: Tina Turner', she noted that the children witnessed their 'endless fights'.

“I knew it would affect them, and it did,” she wrote.

However, in numerous interviews, Tina spoke about her children, emphasizing that they were good.

Ike Jr. previously noted that his mother was 'no-nonsense' and 'very strict' at home and shared how she influenced his music career.

“My first instrument was drums until mother made me take them apart every day, so piano was always nearby,” he recalled.

At 13, his father took Ike on tour, where he began working in a recording studio. After the divorce, Tina hired him until their father asked him to stop.

Ultimately, father and son won a Grammy for Best Traditional Blues Album in 2007.

“I got a Grammy for Risin’ with the Blues, I produced my [father's] album,” he said.

After moving to Switzerland with her new husband Erwin Bach, Tina admitted that she felt some distance from all her children except Craig.

In 2018, Ike Jr. noted that he had not spoken to his mother for over 10 years.

“I haven’t talked to my mother, probably since 2000. She is living her life — she has a new husband, and she is in Europe,” he said.

Ike Jr. played in a tribute band called The Love Thang.

The death of Ike Turner Jr. was a significant loss to the family and the entire music world. His legacy as the son of the legendary Tina Turner and Ike Turner will live on in the memories of fans.
