Trump considers negotiating with Kim Jong Un
The newly elected US president Donald Trump is considering the possibility of personal negotiations with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to seek a diplomatic solution to the crisis on the Korean Peninsula, Reuters reports.
According to sources, Trump's advisers believe that such an approach would allow for progress in resolving the conflict with Kim, given their relationship.
During his presidential term from 2017 to 2021, Trump met with Kim three times: in Singapore, Hanoi, and at the Korean border. These meetings were the first in history between a US president and North Korea.
However, Reuters sources emphasize that Trump has not yet made a final decision regarding negotiations with Kim Jong Un. The issue may be postponed due to other pressing problems in the Middle East and Ukraine.
It is also unclear what specific proposals Kim Jong Un is willing to offer Trump to improve relations.
The agency explains that North Korea has ignored attempts by President Biden to initiate negotiations without preconditions over the past four years. At the same Time, Kim Jong Un has strengthened his position by increasing his arsenal of missiles and getting closer to Russia.
