Elected 47th President of the United States Donald Trump held a phone conversation with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol. The parties, in particular, touched upon the issue of the deployment of DPRK troops in Russia to assist in the war against Ukraine.
This was stated by the First Deputy Advisor to the President of South Korea for National Security Kim Tae Hyo, RBC-Ukraine reports with reference to Yonhap News Agency.
During the conversation, Yeol congratulated Trump on his "convincing victory" in the presidential elections. They discussed ties between the countries in the field of security, economy, and global issues.
As a representative of the South Korean president reported, Trump noted that the US seeks to cooperate with South Korea in the shipbuilding industry, particularly in maritime shipbuilding, export, repair, and maintenance.
According to a South Korean official, Yoon and Trump discussed the "situation in North Korea, including recent nuclear developments, missile launches, and troop deployment in Russia." In addition, the parties "expressed concern about these security issues and the urgency of the situation in Ukraine."
The Office of the South Korean leader noted that they also agreed to hold a personal meeting shortly.
"They shared the view that they need to discuss these issues in person and agreed to meet as soon as possible when they can set a date and place," said Yoon's deputy advisor for national security.
