Packed Match Schedule Blamed for Player Fatigue, Says Shakhtar Coach After Victory.
Shakhtar Manager Speaks Out
According to Novyny.live: Following a hard-fought 1-0 win over Metalist 1925 in the 20th round of the Ukrainian Premier League on March 15, Shakhtar Donetsk head coach Arda Turan addressed his squad's physical condition. He pointed to a grueling fixture list as the primary cause of player exhaustion, especially with the team having just faced Lech Poznań in the UEFA Conference League just three days earlier, on March 12.
The Turkish manager stressed that constant travel and back-to-back games place an enormous burden on the team.
“Traveling wears us out a lot, but we have to operate under these conditions,” Arda Turan remarked. This demanding schedule forces players to constantly adapt and push their physical limits to stay competitive.
League Standings
Despite the intense calendar, Shakhtar maintains a three-point lead over second-placed LNZ Cherkasy, a crucial advantage in the race for the league title. For context, the Ukrainian national team is also in the thick of action, competing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup playoffs this March, which adds another layer of intensity to the country's football landscape.
Shakhtar continues to balance domestic and international commitments, and Turan's comments highlight the mounting challenges posed by such a dense schedule.
Amid a busy football season, Shakhtar has shown resilience, staying competitive both in the national league and on the European stage. The importance of physical conditioning and player adaptability has become critical as the team pursues its goals, particularly the league championship. The national team's concurrent World Cup campaign underscores a broader surge in Ukrainian football, with clubs and the national side competing on multiple fronts, adding extra intrigue to the country's sporting scene.
