Ukrainian Olympic Coaches to Receive $1,200 Stipends Ahead of Milan and LA Games.
2026 Olympic Games in Italy
According to Novyny.live: The 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Italy represent a major upcoming milestone for Ukrainian athletes and their coaches. In a move to support this effort, Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers has approved a stipend program for these coaches, as announced by the Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, Matviy Bidnyi. A total of 50 stipends have been allocated to coaches preparing Ukrainian competitors for the global stage.
Stipends for Coaches
Of the coaches selected for these stipends, eight are preparing candidates for the XXV Olympic Winter Games in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo in 2026. The remaining 42 are training athletes for the XXXIV Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028. The value of each monthly stipend is set at 15 times the official living wage for able-bodied persons. Based on the new rate effective January 1, 2026, this amounts to 49,920 Ukrainian hryvnias (approximately $1,200 USD). This financial support is particularly significant given the economic pressures facing the country.
"We live in a time when the country's priorities are different, but we have a large number of qualified coaches who deserve proper working conditions." - Matviy Bidnyi
The initiative is designed to bolster the coaches who play a crucial role in preparing athletes for international competition. Providing these stipends is expected to significantly impact the quality of training for Ukrainian contenders. Amidst the ongoing war and economic challenges, supporting coaches is vital for maintaining the nation's sports infrastructure and keeping athletes motivated.
This decision may also help attract new talent into sports, as ensuring dignified conditions for coaching is a cornerstone of successful athlete development on the world stage.
