Just a year after her stage debut, Keaton was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress for her role in Woody Allen's play 'Play It Again, Sam'.

In 1970, she made her film debut with a role in 'Lovers and Other Strangers', after which she received the lead role in 'The Godfather', starring alongside Al Pacino.

She reprised this role in both sequels in 1974 and 1990.

In 1977, she won her first Oscar for Best Actress in Woody Allen's romantic comedy 'Annie Hall'. Throughout her illustrious career, Keaton also won a BAFTA and two Golden Globe Awards.

She was also nominated for two Emmy Awards.

However, despite all her successes, Keaton refused to watch her performances, stating in 1975:

“I just don’t like how I look and sound.”

This insecurity was also evident while filming 'First Wives Club' where she worked with Goldie Hawn and Bette Midler.

In 2023, Keaton told The Hollywood Reporter that during the filming of the 1996 comedy, in which she sang and danced with “really wonderful actresses”, she

“was always a little anxious and a little worried.”

Her last film was the 2023 release 'Book Club: The Next Chapter'.
