Responding to questions about the show he is ready to join, the 37-year-old footballer noted that he must first gain his wife's consent, as his ego may prompt him to take on more than he can handle.

“The sad part is that I will probably try to go on a reality show because of my ego. I need to talk to my wife; she advised me that I am not as good at everything as I think,”

- he said.

“I love cooking, so probably something like MasterChef or Bake Off, something like that. I would be interested to do it.”

Deeney declined to participate in Dancing on Ice, admitting that he is “not Bambi” on ice.

“That’s a strict no-no. At this stage of my life, I am looking to learn about myself and open up to new opportunities. And along with that, use my platform to communicate with people.”

Finishing his playing career at the beginning of 2024, Deeney turned to analysis and commentary, particularly during matches of his former club Birmingham City.

Living on the outskirts of Birmingham, he has faced many life challenges and turned to close ones for support.

Troy also emphasized the importance of community and how football can help bring people together:

“Players can become heroes for these kids – you never know what they go through.”
“Empathy is a wonderful thing and can open your mind to the fact that for some of these fans, you are the best thing they have, no matter what is happening around.”

Deeney also noted that even a simple greeting or high-five can positively impact people's lives.

“But despite my tough exterior, inside I am a big softie.”

Troy's comments came after a Smart Energy GB survey showed that 23% of football fans noted that the sense of community they get from their team is one of the most valuable parts of the game.

The study also found that 18% highlight the role of the club in the local community, making the sport even more attractive to them.

Researchers indicated that 81% of fans received “life advice” from their football clubs regarding gambling control (10%), maintaining physical fitness in later life (33%), and improving support for women in the game (18%).

Troy added:

“Throughout my time in football, I was surrounded by a team on and off the field that helped me through the ups and downs. It is important for fans to be able to rely on people they trust.”

The survey also revealed that 23% began saving money for football expenses, while one in ten - that their club taught budgeting and personal finance.

Technology also plays an important role in supporting those close to him.

“If you have issues with bills, a smart meter can be really helpful. My grandmother recently got one, and it’s great for us as part of her team to know she is getting accurate energy bills and better understands her expenses.”

A key aspect of Troy's thoughts is the importance of the relationships built between players and fans. It is not just about the game on the field but also about the support and connection with the people living around them. Belonging to a community, as studies show, is a valuable element in the lives of many football fans.
