The European Union calls for compliance with obligations before the International Criminal Court

The European Union calls on all states parties to the Rome Statute to uphold their obligations and execute the arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court, including those concerning Putin.

This is stated in the European Union's statement on the aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, delivered during the OSCE Permanent Council meeting in Vienna.

"The EU remains deeply concerned about the fate of all Ukrainian children and other civilians unlawfully transferred by Russia to temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine or unlawfully deported to the Russian Federation and Belarus. The European Union once again calls on Russia and Belarus to ensure their safe return to Ukraine immediately," the statement said.

At the same Time, the requirement for the immediate release by Russia of all unlawfully detained persons, "including three arbitrarily detained OSCE personnel," is emphasized.

"We recall the six arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court, including against President Putin for the war crime of unlawful deportation and transfer of Ukrainian children. All states parties to the Rome Statute are obliged to execute the arrest warrants issued by the ICC," the document states.

The European Union assured its strong support for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine "in accordance with international law, including the UN Charter, with full respect for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity."

"To achieve this, we call on the aggressor, Russia, to immediately cease its aggressive war and fully and unconditionally withdraw all its troops and military equipment from the entire territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders," the statement emphasizes.
