An avalanche of blizzard snow occurred in the Carpathians
A dangerous situation has arisen in the Carpathians - an avalanche of blizzard snow with a volume of 1280 cubic meters descended. This was reported by the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center.
According to a representative of the Emergency Service from Ivano-Frankivsk region, the avalanche descended on January 6 between 15:00 and 16:00 Kyiv Time.
"According to a representative of the Emergency Service from Ivano-Frankivsk region, when inspecting the avalanche areas, it was discovered that an avalanche of blizzard snow with a volume of 1280 cubic meters descended from the eastern slope of Mount Breckul," the message states.
Mount Breckul is a peak in the Chornohora massif, its height is 1911 meters.
Rescuers from Ivano-Frankivsk region warn of a high risk of snow avalanches and urge not to take risks and to avoid going into the mountains during bad weather. According to forecasts from the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, significant avalanche danger (level III) is expected in early January in the high-altitude areas of Ivano-Frankivsk and Transcarpathian regions.
Recommendations for tourists:
- Do not go into the mountains alone. Always choose a reliable partner or group.
- Check the weather forecast. If there is a storm warning, cancel your plans.
- Be careful. Carefully inspect slopes before going or riding.
- Avoid dangerous areas. Do not approach the edges of the snow cover.
- If an avalanche descends, try to quickly escape sideways.
Significant reduction in electricity consumption has been recorded due to warming in various regions of Ukraine.
