Today in Paris, the trial against actor Gérard Depardieu will begin.
Today in Paris, the first trial against actor Gérard Depardieu will begin. According to the publication Bild, he is accused of sexual harassment. The trial will commence at 13:00 local Time. According to the accusation, Depardieu committed sexual harassment against two women during the filming of the movie "Green Shutters" in 2021.
In February 2024, one decorator and assistant director accused the actor of sexual violence, sexual harassment, and sexist insults. Lawyer Jérémie Assous, representing Depardieu, reported that the actor will be personally present at the court hearing.
«The witnesses and evidence he will present will show that he is merely the object of false accusations. The plaintiffs' aim, according to the compensation claims, is to enrich themselves up to 6 to 30 thousand euros», claimed the lawyer.
Witnesses claim that on the film set, Depardieu kissed women and grabbed them by the breasts. He also behaved disorderly, but only with women who were under his supervision.
«I was with him on the film set. He is a monster who never said «enough» and continued», said actor Mathieu Kassovitz, a colleague of Depardieu.
Some French TV channels have already refused to broadcast films featuring Gérard Depardieu. Additionally, his wax statue in the Grévin Museum in Paris was dismantled, and the actor was stripped of the Legion of Honor. For sexual harassment charges, he faces up to 5 years in prison. Overall, 5 lawsuits have been filed against Depardieu, and 21 women have reported harassment by him.
Film critics believe that "Green Fences" may become the last film in Depardieu's extensive filmography. The trial may also have significant implications for the French film industry, as more people call for holding influential individuals accountable for sexual or scandalous actions.
Let us recall that on April 29 in Paris, Depardieu was detained by law enforcement due to accusations of sexual violence, and he is currently being questioned.
