New Russian Ministry Created to Protect Infrastructure Amid War: Key Goals Revealed.
Establishment of a Ministry for Infrastructure Protection
According to Espreso.tv: Gleb Nikitin, the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, has signed a decree to form a new Ministry for the Protection of Facilities within the regional government. This body, along with the Ministry of Energy and Housing and Public Utilities, will fall under the oversight of Deputy Chairman Vladimir Tuzhilin. The reorganization comes as Russia continues its war against Ukraine, driving the need to bolster the region’s defensive capabilities.
Mandate of the New Ministry
The responsibilities of this new entity include:
- Assisting the Russian Ministry of Defense;
- Securing the airspace over the region;
- Protecting critical infrastructure.
Nikitin stated that
“a single government block will consolidate key functions related to both the Nizhny Novgorod region’s contribution to national defense and ensuring the security of the region itself amid the ongoing special military operation.”
He also highlighted the importance of providing comprehensive support to the Russian Ministry of Defense, as well as defending the region’s airspace and safeguarding energy and utility facilities—primary targets for enemy drone attacks. These changes reflect the pressing challenges the region faces in the current geopolitical climate.
The creation of this ministry in the Nizhny Novgorod region signals a growing emphasis on defense readiness amid the war and perceived external threats. The focus on protecting critical infrastructure and ensuring regional security underscores the heightened priority of national security issues today. These steps may be part of a broader Russian strategy to strengthen regional defense capacities in response to military challenges.
