Investigation into the death of Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa
The death of American actor Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa, who were found dead in their home in New Mexico, is under investigation. New details of the case have emerged. This was reported by 'Glavkom' citing the French TV channel BFMTV.
The gas company in New Mexico reported a minor gas leak in the actor's stove on March 4. However, the carbon monoxide level was only 0.33%, which could not have led to their deaths.
During the investigation, defects were found in the water heater and chimneys, but nothing was discovered that could have caused a gas leak or carbon monoxide poisoning. The sheriff leading the investigation previously stated that carbon monoxide poisoning is unlikely to be the cause of death.
He also noted that no injuries were found on the bodies and added that the medical examiner would have noticed any damage. The sheriff emphasized that the investigation is ongoing. Results of the autopsy and toxicology tests are expected in a few weeks.
It was previously reported that carbon monoxide poisoning could be the cause of death for Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa.
To recall, the 95-year-old actor and his 63-year-old wife were found dead along with one of their dogs in Santa Fe on February 26. The last film in which Gene Hackman appeared was 'Welcome to Muzzport' (2004), and he officially announced his retirement in 2008.
