Global technological failure in the world, some airports are not working: details.
In the morning, it became known that several countries around the world faced serious technical problems. This led to the shutdown of airports, government institutions, banks, carriers, communication operators, and private companies.
Oleg Gorokhovsky, co-founder of Monobank, stated that a global IT failure occurred due to the interaction between Crowdstrike antivirus and the Windows OS. Gorokhovsky added that many companies were knocked out because of this.
Problems in aviation, private companies, and banks
In the USA, Australia, Spain, and Germany, problems arose with airport technical systems, causing delays and cancellations of flights.
The US Federal Aviation Administration reported the suspension of flights of American Airlines, United Airlines, and Delta Airlines due to communication problems. According to CNN, a failure in the Microsoft Azure cloud storage platform caused the cancellations and delays of flights.
Airports in Spain reported an «incident in the computer system» which may lead to flight delays. Berlin Brandenburg International Airport ceased operations due to technical problems preventing planes from taking off and landing.
In Australia, a global technical breakdown occurred affecting communication operators, banks, and airlines. These problems are related to the operation of Microsoft laptops.
The Windows 10 BSOD failure is linked to an update of the Crowdstrike program, which provides cybersecurity for computers with the Windows OS.
A representative of Microsoft stated that the company is investigating the situation, while Crowdstrike was not available for comments, and calls to their main number in Japan went unanswered.
Initial problems
According to Bloomberg, the first problems appeared in the USA late Thursday evening due to failures in Microsoft services, particularly Azure and 365. Frontier Airlines, owned by Frontier Group Holdings Inc., halted flights for more than 2 hours. After this, the airline lifted the nationwide pause on departures and began the process of resuming operations at 11:00 PM New York Time.
The LSE Group, which manages the London Stock Exchange, reported a global technical issue that hinders the publication of news. In Asia, users began to complain about issues with services, particularly Microsoft 365, in the second half of the day. Airlines at airports in Mumbai and Hong Kong returned to manual passenger registration.
The latest problems arose after Microsoft resolved failures in Azure cloud services. Previously, status pages of the company showed reports of issues with Azure and Microsoft 365 for several hours.
On the morning of July 19, the company «Nova Poshta» faced problems due to a technical failure but managed to restore the operation of all customer systems and services.
There were also reports of problems in Monobank, «Sense Bank», and mobile operator Vodafone.
