Border Violation Crackdown

According to Espreso.tv: Ukraine's State Border Guard Service detained roughly 1,100 individuals for border violations in May, according to agency spokesperson Andriy Demchenko.

“In May alone, we detained about 1,100 violators along the border line and in the border zone,”
he stated. This figure represents an increase in border violations compared to April.

However, the number of illegal crossing attempts has declined compared to 2025. Additionally, on May 15, the government removed all remaining restrictions on women leaving the country, eliminating any prior exceptions. These policy shifts are expected to reshape border dynamics in the coming months.

Border Situation Analysis

The May detention numbers highlight intensified border enforcement, likely driven by both a rise in crossing attempts and new response strategies. The drop in illegal crossing attempts relative to 2025 suggests that earlier measures have been effective, while the lifted travel ban for women will probably alter crossing patterns going forward.
