At the age of 28, a European Athletics Championship participant unexpectedly passed away.
British runner Robbie Fitzgibbon, who participated in the European Championship and the "Diamond League," was lost at the age of 29. Sky Sports reports this.
Fitzgibbon was a specialist in middle-distance running, performing successfully at junior and youth levels. In 2019, he reached the final of the 1500 meters race at the European Indoor Championship, finishing eighth. Shortly thereafter, he sustained an injury and underwent surgery, after which he was unable to return to his previous level.
In 2025, Fitzgibbon planned to run the Brighton Marathon to raise money for a charity organization addressing mental health issues.
This year, the athlete admitted that he was diagnosed with psychosis in 2022.
The causes of Fitzgibbon's death are currently unknown.
Let's recall that 25-year-old boxer and Ukrainian national team member Arkadiy Kartsen passed away.
The boxer was in a coma for three days, and today his heart stopped. The exact causes of the athlete's death have not been reported.
Kartsen was an international class master of sports in boxing, a multiple champion of Ukraine. He represented our country at the 2023 European Games, where he lost in the round of 16 competitions.
Arkadiy competed for the Khmelnytskyi region and the "Avangard" sports club in domestic competitions.
In 2023, Kartsen became the Ukrainian boxing champion in the 92 kg category. Also, in 2015, the athlete became the European junior champion.
"This guy's thirst for victories was unparalleled; he dreamed of becoming an Olympic champion and worked hard for it. The boxing family expresses its sincere condolences to Arkadiy's family! Rest in peace, champion! We will always remember you!" — noted in the statement of the Ukrainian Boxing Federation.
It is worth noting that at the beginning of January, the head coach of the Ukrainian boxing team, Dmytro Sosnovsky, reported that Kartsen had a psychological breakdown at the tournament in Debrecen.
As reported, 18-year-old Muriel Furrer from Switzerland died in a hospital after suffering a head injury during the junior road race at the 2024 World Cycling Championship.
