Possible mobilization from the age of 18 in Ukraine: official comment

The communication advisor to the Office of the President of Ukraine, Dmytro Lytvyn, commented on the rumors about the possibility of lowering the age for mobilization, stating that the country's authorities are not considering such an option for youth aged 18 and over.

Speculations arose after a statement by U.S. President representative Mike Waltz regarding the advisability of lowering the age for enlistment in order to enhance Ukraine's defense capability. However, at the moment, no legislative proposals are being considered in the Verkhovna Rada that foresee lowering the age threshold for mandatory mobilization.

It is also important to note that in February a program 'Contract 18-24' was introduced, which allows young citizens aged 18 to 24 to serve voluntarily. This program is open for voluntary participation and has nothing to do with general conscription.

Currently, Ukraine is also considering the possibility of mobilization after citizens reach the age of 60.
