UAF has not abandoned the Cup of Ukraine, but has reformatted the tournament.
The Ukrainian Football Association has approved changes to the format of the Cup of Ukraine, which will take effect from the 2025/2026 season. The main innovations include a blind draw, the absence of extra time, and the participation of all teams in a single bracket, starting from different stages, reports the UAF press service.
Each round of the tournament will now consist of a single match. In the event of a draw, a penalty shootout will be conducted immediately, and extra time has been canceled. Clubs will not be seeded, allowing 'Shakhtar' to play against 'Dynamo' or even an amateur team as early as the first match. All Cup of Ukraine matches will be broadcast on the UPL TV platform. The tournament will also receive a new trophy, with the first match scheduled for August 9-10. By that time, Donetsk 'Shakhtar' intends to defend its title under the new rules.
