Two Olympic Ski Jumping Spots Secured by Ukraine for 2026 Games.
Quotas for the 2026 Winter Olympics
According to Novyny.live: Ukraine's national ski jumping team has secured two quota places for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy. These berths were earned through a lengthy qualification process that began in July 2024. This achievement marks a significant step for a nation whose athletes have faced immense challenges in recent years.
One quota was earned by Yevhen Marusiak, who placed 52nd in the overall standings with 167 points. The second spot went to Vitaliy Kalinichenko, who delivered Ukraine's best ski jumping result at the previous 2022 Beijing Games by finishing 44th. In the men's ski jumping events for the 2026 Olympics, a total of 49 quota places were available, with a maximum of four per nation.
Outlook for Ukrainian Jumpers
Notably, the quotas in ski jumping are awarded to the country, not to specific athletes, meaning the final team members who will represent Ukraine are yet to be officially named. At the 2022 Beijing Olympics, the country was represented by three athletes in this discipline, highlighting the importance of securing these two starting positions. The ski jumping competitions at the 2026 Winter Games are scheduled for February 9–16 in Val di Fiemme.
Earning these spots demonstrates progress for Ukrainian athletes in ski jumping, which could positively influence the sport's development domestically. The opportunity to field a team at the Olympics is also crucial for gaining experience and inspiring a new generation of jumpers in Ukraine.
