Youth Return Trends in Ukraine

According to Novyny.live: Ukraine’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Matviy Bidnyi, stated that there is no evidence of a large-scale failure among 18-to-22-year-olds to return home from abroad. According to him, newly implemented border crossing policies are helping young Ukrainians maintain ties with their homeland, and the government has not observed any alarming outflow of youth. Currently, 8 million Ukrainians live overseas, but this has not led to a permanent departure of young people from the country.

Youth Emigration Patterns

Bidnyi emphasized that the government does not see a critical trend in youth emigration. He remarked:

“So there is no catastrophic picture regarding their departure or them staying abroad permanently.” - Matviy Bidnyi

The minister also highlighted efforts to build an open society in Ukraine: “We are constructing a free, liberal country and are not erecting new iron curtains.”

The government continues to monitor youth emigration patterns, but currently sees no cause for concern. Given that young people are able to stay in touch with their homeland, the situation appears stable. Thus, despite a large percentage of Ukrainians living abroad, the minister assures that there is no mass departure of youth—a sign that may reflect positive shifts in state policy.
