Dynamo eliminated from the Champions League: Ukraine without a group stage for the first time in 20 years.
In the third qualifying round of the Champions League, Kyiv's 'Dynamo' lost to the Cypriot 'Paphos' in two matches. The aggregate score was 3:0 in favor of the opponent.
As a result of these defeats, the club will not be able to advance to the main round of the tournament, as reported by the News.LIVE portal.
This season without the Champions League
'Dynamo' will continue its fight in the Europa League qualification, where it plans to rehabilitate itself. At the same time, Oleksandr Shovkovskyi's team was the only Ukrainian club in the Champions League, and its elimination marked Ukraine's first absence in the main stage in 20 years.
The last time this happened was in the 2005/2006 season. Back then, 'Shakhtar' lost to 'Inter', while 'Dynamo' lost to 'Thun' from Switzerland 2:3. The defeat to the Swiss cost Leonid Buryak the position of head coach.
Kyiv's 'Dynamo' suffered two defeats in the Champions League qualification against the Cypriot 'Paphos', failing to secure a place in the main round of the tournament. Now the team will have to fight in the Europa League, trying to restore its dignity. This season has become the first in 20 years without Ukrainian teams in the Champions League, and 'Dynamo's' defeat to 'Paphos' recalled a similar situation in 2005/2006 when the miners won against 'Inter' and the dynamos lost to 'Thun'.
