Ukrainians were shown the prices for firewood during the heating season: how to choose.
Ukrainians are increasingly using solid fuel to heat their homes, especially in rural areas, due to limited access to gas.
According to a study by 24 Kanal, the cost of firewood varies significantly depending on the type of wood and its thermal properties.
The highest price on the Ukrainian market is for beech firewood – 2200 hryvnias per cubic meter. Oak and acacia firewood costs 1820 hryvnias per cubic meter, while hornbeam and ash firewood are 1800 hryvnias. Birch and alder firewood are more accessible, available for 1500 hryvnias per cubic meter.
The most affordable are pine firewood, costing 1200 hryvnias per cubic meter.
The price of firewood depends on the density of the wood and its thermal properties. Oak and acacia, which have high density, provide more heat, which is reflected in their price. On the other hand, birch and pine, which have lower density, cost less.
Coniferous species are also cheaper due to increased soot formation in chimneys.
Sellers also offer the service of packaging firewood in special wooden boxes, which is convenient but raises the final cost of the product.
Additionally, it became known how to obtain a subsidy and benefit for coal and firewood, as well as what the price differences for gas are depending on the type of heating.
