Ukrainians declared hunger strike in Georgia: why they are being held in the basement.
Five Ukrainians are stuck in the basement at the 'Dariali' border checkpoint in Georgia and have decided to express their protest through an indefinite hunger strike.
Sergiy Larko, one of the participants in this action, explained that they are trying to draw the attention of Georgian border guards to their situation through the hunger strike.
Reason for the Ukrainians' hunger strike
Larko explained that the reason for the hunger strike is the illegal actions of the border guards and violations of their rights. Without documents and the ability to cross the border, they are demanding access to a consul, explanations regarding their detention, and medical assistance.
'I, Larko Sergiy Oleksiyovych, declare an indefinite hunger strike in protest against the illegal actions of the Georgian border guards and the violation of my rights', - it is stated in the address.
Explanation from the Georgian authorities
The Georgian authorities claim that the deported Ukrainians do not have enough documents to cross the border and may pose a threat to the country. Nevertheless, they remain at the border until the situation is resolved.
For the Ukrainians in this situation, it is difficult to return to Ukraine due to the lack of documents, and they remain stuck at the border checkpoint, waiting for a decision regarding their future.
