Ukrainians won three gold medals at the World Games: how the sambists defeated the Russians.
At the World Games 2025 in Chengdu, China, the finals in combat sambo were held. In these competitions, Ukrainians and Russians, who competed in a neutral status, were the main favorites.
Andriy Kucherenko (71 kg), Vladislav Rudniev (79 kg), and Petro Davidenko (88 kg) competed in search of gold medals.
Ukrainians won three gold medals
The first gold medal was won by Andriy Kucherenko, who defeated Roland Zinnatov in the final with a score of 6:1 and danced the hopak. The second 'gold' was won by Vladislav Rudniev, defeating Ovanes Abgaryan. The third highest medal was won by Petro Davidenko, winning against Abusupyan Alikhanov.
Ukrainians Yevhenia Pozdnya and Angelina Lysenko also competed, reaching the quarter-finals. These are not the first victories for Ukrainian athletes, as they previously won gold medals in Muay Thai and jiu-jitsu.
British boxer Dillian Whyte revealed his plans for fights against Oleksandr Usyk, who holds all championship belts. Usyk challenged the boxer who spent 20 years in prison and is now returning to boxing.
As a result of the finals in combat sambo at the World Games 2025, Ukrainian athletes won three gold medals, continuing to confirm their high sports mastery in various disciplines.
