Ukrainian Sofia Grechko Sets World Record at World Games: Double Gold.
Ukrainian athlete Sofia Grechko has once again brought victory to Ukraine by winning a gold medal in finswimming at 400 meters at the World Games 2025 in Chengdu. Her time of 3:11.88 shattered the world record and the tournament record.
Silver went to another Ukrainian athlete Anna Yakovleva, who finished behind Grechko with a time of 3:12.27, ahead of a competitor who competed under a neutral flag.
Success of the Ukrainian team in China
This is already Sofia Grechko's second gold medal at this year's games. Earlier, she triumphed in the 200-meter distance. Her performances made a significant contribution to the overall medal tally of the Ukrainian team.
At the World Games 2025, Ukraine has already won 11 medals in finswimming, which is the largest result among all participating countries. Our team placed third in the medal standings of this sport, coming in behind Hungary and Germany.
Ukrainian athletes have overall won 21 medals at the tournament, highlighting their high level of preparation and effectiveness in water disciplines. Equally impressive was the victory of Ukrainian karateka Rizvan Talibov, who became the champion in his discipline at this competition.
