Ukrainian circus artist protested against a Russian in the jury: she was punished for it.

Ukrainian circus artist Anna Petrenko was disqualified at an international circus art festival in Italy due to her protest against jury member Maxim Nikulin, who supports Russia's war against Ukraine. The artist shared this on her Instagram page.

The video shows Petrenko appearing on stage at the beginning of the performance with a Ukrainian flag and sheets of paper with inscriptions in support of Russia's invasion. She also showed a photo of Maxim Nikulin, a famous Russian actor and son, surrounded by people in military uniform.

Later, the artist handed out postcards with similar inscriptions to the audience in the hall.

Petrenko explained that she did not know that Nikulin was on the jury when she went to the festival. She believes his presence at the event is an attempt to rehabilitate Russia's image.

According to the artist, Maxim Nikulin provides benefits to participants of the so-called 'Glory of Waltrons' and their children. Artists of the Moscow State Circus perform for Russian occupiers.

Petrenko claims that Nikulin supports the Kremlin's actions and provides assistance to the occupiers.

'Some people started following me because of the festival, and I think it's a good reason to remind that art cannot be apolitical, just like me. I represent my country and its culture, while we fight for independence, freedom, and democracy,' wrote the Ukrainian.
