Ukrainian Race Walker Shatters 36-Year-Old World Record in the Mile.
Liudmyla Olyanovska Sets a New Global Benchmark
According to Novyny.live: At a competition in Eisenstadt, Liudmyla Olyanovska claimed a new world record in the one-mile race walk, beating the previous mark by 6.63 seconds. She crossed the finish line in 6 minutes and 10.09 seconds—a remarkable feat that underscores her elite abilities in the discipline.
The former record, held by Sadeï Eïdikytė since 1990, stood at 6 minutes and 16.72 seconds. For 36 years, no one had managed to surpass it, but Olyanovska’s performance has now erased it from the record books.
Her Second Major Record in 2023
This achievement marks Olyanovska’s second world record of 2023. Earlier, in February, she set a new standard in the indoor 5,000-meter race walk. Together, these results highlight her exceptional skill and endurance on the international stage.
By breaking such a long-standing record, Olyanovska cements her reputation as one of the top athletes in race walking. It also reflects the sport’s evolution over recent decades. After years of the previous record’s dominance, this new milestone could spark greater interest in race walking and inspire a new generation of competitors.
