Attack on Ukraine: June 9, 2023
According to UATV: On June 9, 2023, Russian forces launched a large-scale assault on Ukraine, deploying two Kh-59/69 guided air-to-surface missiles and 166 attack drones, including Shahed, Gerbera, Itelmas, and other models. The missiles originated from Russia's Voronezh region, while the drones were launched from Oryol, Kursk, Bryansk, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, Millerovo, temporarily occupied parts of Donetsk, and Hvardiiske in Crimea.
As of 8:00 AM, Ukraine's air defense systems had successfully intercepted or suppressed 146 hostile drones. Confirmed impacts included:
- Two guided air-to-surface missiles
- 17 attack drones across 18 locations
Debris from intercepted objects fell at eight sites.
Strike on Sloviansk
Additionally, the day prior, on June 8, Russia targeted the city of Sloviansk in Donetsk Oblast with three high-explosive aerial bombs. One FAB-250 bomb landed near a maternity hospital, injuring nine people. These events underscore the ongoing armed aggression against Ukraine by Russia.
The attacks highlight not only an escalation in military operations but also the grave threat to civilians enduring the conflict's consequences. The rising frequency of strikes on populated areas signals that the war continues despite international efforts to broker peace. Ukraine's air defense forces persist in their mission to protect the nation, though the situation remains highly tense.
