Ethnic scandal between Poles and Israelis

In the second leg of the third round of qualification of the between Maccabi Haifa and Rakow (0:2), which took place in Debrecen, Hungary, a huge scandal erupted. The conflict was so intense that even the President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, expressed his condemnation.

The scandal arose due to a banner displayed by Maccabi fans, reported the portal Novyny.LIVE.

Maccabi fans unfurled a banner during the match with the inscription 'Killers since 1939', which referred to historical events and caused outrage among fans and representatives of Rakow.

The Poles called it a provocation and reported that they were also provoked after the game, which led to a fight between players.

At the same time, the Polish side claims that Maccabi representatives called a journalist from their country a Nazi.

Due to the tense situation, the post-match press conference of Maccabi's head coach Diego Flores was canceled.

The President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, reacted to the incident by condemning the provocation.

'The scandalous banner displayed by Maccabi fans from Haifa disrespects the memory of Polish victims of World War II, including three million Jews. This nonsense is hard to convey in words' — wrote Nawrocki on social media.

The President of the Polish Football Association, Cezary Kulesza, also stated he intends to appeal to UEFA with a complaint and a demand to hold the Israelis accountable for the scandalous banner and offensive behavior in the stands.
