Young athlete astonished with noble deed at the Ukrainian grappling championship (video).
Nobility at the grappling championship
Yesterday, the Ukrainian grappling championship among 12-13 year old children took place in Khmelnytskyi, bringing an extraordinarily touching incident. During the match for third place, the injured athlete could no longer continue fighting – he stepped onto the mat with the help of other participants, but could not compete.
According to the regulations, the judges were to declare his opponent – the athlete in the white kimono – the winner. But he acted in a way that only true athletes do.
The mustachioed boy refused the medal, believing it should go to the injured athlete. And the judges supported this act of honesty, recognizing the injured boy as the winner. His opponent also did not leave him without support, helping him leave the mat.
After this episode, coaches, judges, and spectators were deeply moved by this demonstration of sports nobility. Such moments remind us that there is also a place for good people and honesty in modern sports.
