A New Hidden Structure Discovered Inside the Earth.
The International Seismological Center has reported the discovery of a previously unknown layer of the Earth's second inner core. This finding alters the understanding of the planet's structure, as it was previously believed that the Earth has four main layers: the crust, mantle, outer core, and inner core.
To locate the new structure, an innovative algorithm that analyzed thousands of seismic wave recordings was used. According to the research results, the molten inner core has two layers and differs in its physical properties at approximately 5000°C.
The differences in the behavior of seismic waves are explained by changes in the structure of iron at various stages of the Earth's cooling process. These wave propagation anomalies may be related to changes in the structure of the Earth's interior.
Scientists believe that this discovery supports hypotheses about the complex structure of the Earth, but further research is needed for a definitive understanding, especially in hard-to-reach areas of the planet.
A scientist from Anglia University, Gail Whiteman, has issued a troubling signal for the world - a rise in the average temperature by 1.5 degrees Celsius in 2024.
