Oleksandr Usyk Steps Away from His Titles

According to Espreso.tv: Oleksandr Usyk has officially relinquished all of his heavyweight championship belts, a move that has resulted in his removal from the WBA rankings. As a consequence, Murat Gassiev has ascended to the top contender position. Usyk, who holds a professional record of 25 wins with 16 knockouts, announced his decision on June 26. Notably, in July 2018, Usyk defeated Gassiev in Moscow—a pivotal victory in his career.

Upcoming Fights in the Heavyweight Division

Gassiev's next bout is scheduled against Tony Yoka, whose record stands at 15 wins and 3 losses, including 12 knockouts. Additionally, the International Boxing Federation (IBF) has ordered a fight for the vacant title between:

  • Frank Sanchez, who boasts a record of 26 wins and 1 loss;
  • Moses Itauma, who remains undefeated with 14 wins, 12 of which came by knockout.

Usyk has stated that he is not retiring and plans to compete in at least one more major fight. This decision opens up new possibilities for the Ukrainian boxer, who continues to draw significant attention from the boxing community.

Usyk's decision to give up his titles may signal that he is seeking fresh challenges or preparing for more significant bouts in the future. It also creates opportunities for other heavyweights, particularly Murat Gassiev, who now has a chance to claim a championship title. A victory for Gassiev in his upcoming fight could elevate his standing on the international stage and establish him as a key figure in the division.
