In Japan, solar panels were developed for extreme winter conditions.
The Japanese company Kyocera presented new solar panels with a power of 410 W, designed for regions with heavy snowfall. The news was published by the pv magazine portal.
The company states that in recent years, the number of incidents with solar panels in snowy areas has increased. The main reason is the accumulated snow, which creates excessive stress on the mounting frame and the panel itself.
“With our new product, the impact of snow accumulation can be minimized, and photovoltaic systems can be safely installed even in snowy regions,” Kyocera representatives say.
The new solar panels feature two glass layers and have support brackets on the back that can withstand vertical snow loads of up to 2.5 meters. They are designed for snow loads of up to 7500 Pa.
During testing, the panels demonstrated their safety, durability, and dirt resistance compared to conventional panels. Moreover, they have an impact-resistant structure that protects them from shards that may scatter.
The unique structure of the grooves on the aluminum frame allows dust to be washed off the panel surface by rainwater and melting snow. The dirt protection system helps avoid decreased energy production, reduce maintenance costs, and prevent breakdowns.
