The NBU is considering the possibility of replacing the dollar with the euro

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) is considering the issue of a strategic transformation of the country's currency system and the replacement of the US dollar with the euro. This was reported by Kateryna Rozhkova, the first deputy head of the NBU, during a telethon.

According to Rozhkova, the NBU plans not just to change the base currency for forming the hryvnia exchange rate but also to generally reorient economic processes towards the European currency. She noted that to ensure access to European markets and develop trade with EU countries, a closer tie to the euro as the main currency of the region is necessary.

'Given our course towards the European community, this is definitely a reality that will happen. If we want to become part of the European Union, to have access to their markets as exporters and importers, it is clear that we must have a link to the currency in which most operations are conducted,' said the deputy head of the NBU.

The NBU leadership emphasizes the importance of careful implementation of these changes, especially in the conditions of economic difficulties caused by the war.

'Right now, in the conditions of challenges associated with the war, which are themselves a shock to the economy, it may not be the best Time... We will avoid any shocks,' noted Rozhkova.

Although specific dates for the transition have not yet been determined, the NBU assures that the process will be gradual and as comfortable as possible for all market participants. This transformation is an important step in Ukraine's Euro-integration course and in approaching the economic space of the European Union.
