The First Snowfall of the Season Occurs in the Carpathians

On the last day of September 2024, residents and guests of the Carpathians witnessed an unexpected natural phenomenon – the first snowfall of the season. This event caused a real stir among local residents and tourists, who hurried to capture the unusual sight for this Time of year on photos and videos.

According to “Hvilya,” photos of the snow-covered mountains were also published by the SES.

The snowfall was especially noticeable on the Polonyna Pozhyzhevska, where the air temperature dropped almost to a negative mark, reaching -1 degree. This is unusual for this time of year when the slopes often remain green.

The popular ski resort of Dragobrat also did not stay aside from this weather surprise. Here, winter gradually began to take its toll; the slopes of the mountains started to be covered with the first snow, although its quantity is not very large yet.

The Chornogorian Mountain Search and Rescue Post reported severe weather conditions on Mount Pip Ivan. As of 9:30 AM on September 30, 2024, fog and a strong north wind with a speed of 20-22 meters per second were observed there. The air temperature at the mountain peak dropped to -5 degrees, significantly lower than in the surrounding areas.

Due to the sudden deterioration in weather conditions, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) issued a recommendation for tourists and climbers to postpone trips to the mountains until the weather stabilizes.

Despite the warnings, tourists still risk and go to the mountains. Moreover, one of such groups needed the help of rescuers on September 30.

It is worth adding that according to meteorologists, negative air temperatures are also expected in the Carpathians on October 1.
