Vasyl Lomachenko likely to end boxing career – ESPN insider.
Ukrainian boxer Vasyl Lomachenko may end his career, reported Mike Coppinger, an ESPN insider. Negotiations for a fight between Lomachenko and Gervonta Davis could not be agreed upon, so Davis will compete against Lamont Roach.
In the summer of 2024, Lomachenko refused a match with Gervonta Davis, discussing future plans of retiring. His manager explained that he currently lacks motivation and wants to spend more Time with his family.
Vasyl Lomachenko began his professional career in 2013 and held 21 fights, suffering only three losses. He became a world champion in three weight categories and won two gold medals at the Olympic Games.
Many achievements in amateur boxing
Lomachenko achieved significant success even at the amateur level. He won two gold medals at the Olympic Games: in Beijing in 2008 and in London in 2012, and also twice became a world amateur champion. His amateur record stands at 396 victories and only one loss.
In the summer of 2024, Lomachenko refused a planned fight with Gervonta Davis due to a lack of motivation and a desire to spend more time with his family.
Recall, Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Khizhniak won the gold medal at the Paris Olympic Games, defeating a representative of Kazakhstan in the final. Also, 25-year-old boxer and member of the Ukrainian national team Arkadiy Kartsen died after three days in a coma.
Oleksandr Usyk, Ukrainian heavyweight champion, stated that after finishing his boxing career, he would become the president of the Boxing Federation of Ukraine.
