The Pope may visit Ukraine: The Vatican is working on the details of the visit.
According to ТСН: The Holy See continues to work on a possible visit of the Pope to Ukraine. Apostolic Nuncio Visvaldas Kulbokas noted that he does not rule out the arrival of Leo XIV.
According to the nuncio, the main goal of the Vatican is to ensure that this visit does not become a mere formal event. The pontiff aims for his presence to truly impact the situation in the country.
“The essence is that the Pope understands that his visit will be important not only symbolically but also spiritually — for Ukraine and the whole world. We must work towards achieving this goal. If such a trip has not yet happened, it means that work is underway,” emphasized Visvaldas Kulbokas.
According to media reports, the main obstacle remains the issue of security. However, the Vatican claims that it has already developed an organizational plan that includes details of the pontiff's possible stay in Ukraine.
It should be noted that Pope Leo XIV expressed “great sorrow” over Russia's refusal to agree to a Christmas truce in the war against Ukraine. The pontiff called on the parties to at least cease hostilities during Christmas and expressed hope that the world would receive at least 24 hours of peace.
This possible visit of the Pope is an important event for Ukraine, as it could draw the world's attention to local issues and help improve the humanitarian situation. Since the security issue remains relevant, much depends on further negotiations and preparations by both the Vatican and the Ukrainian side.
