Scientists from the University of Virginia have developed new rotor designs for wind turbines that will make them cheaper and more efficient. They designed rotors with varying blade widths and modeled turbines to determine the best design for offshore conditions with strong gusts of wind. The best results were shown by the design with moderate blade width, which generates more electricity at lower weight and cost. By optimizing individual parameters, these wind turbines can have a significant impact on wind energy.
In Zakarpattia, the first wind power station with a capacity of 1.8 MW is operating in test mode.
