War Veteran Nazar Davin's Journey: From Business to Sport After Injury

According to Novyny.live: Nazar Davin, a veteran of the Russo-Ukrainian war, exemplifies resilience and fortitude through his journey from entrepreneur to soldier. Before Russia's full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, Davin ran a cleaning business. When the war began, he made a decisive choice.

"I said that's it, I'm going to defend the country," he shared about his decision to enlist.

During his service, Davin was first assigned to the 95th Brigade and later transferred to the 112th Brigade of Kyiv's Territorial Defense. His combat path proved arduous. During an operation on the islands, he sustained a severe injury following the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant. This was a profound test, but the veteran maintained a clear objective.

"I had a clear goal—to get back on my feet and return. So there were ups and downs, but people were always getting on my case," he noted.

Rehabilitation and New Horizons

After his injury, Davin underwent a lengthy rehabilitation process lasting several months. This period was not only about physical recovery but also presented a new personal challenge. In 2023, during his rehab, he began practicing jiu-jitsu. His choice of this martial art was deliberate.

"Why jiu-jitsu specifically? It's one of those sports that can be very precisely adapted to any amputation," he explained.

For Davin, sport has become more than physical therapy; it has given him a renewed sense of purpose. He continues to fight for himself, for his country, and to inspire other veterans facing similar struggles. The war has irrevocably changed his life and the lives of those around him in Odesa, where he now lives. His story shows how a new path can be forged even in the most difficult circumstances. The conflict has created a generation of Ukrainian veterans seeking purpose and community in civilian life.

Nazar Davin's path serves as a powerful example of how veterans who have endured severe trauma can discover new avenues for fulfillment after war. His experience can motivate many who face post-service difficulties, highlighting the critical importance of support and adaptation. As his story demonstrates, sport can be far more than physical activity—it can be a potent tool for psychological rehabilitation and social reintegration for veterans.
